DISCOVER PORTHLEVEN

Porthleven is an ancient fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall, 20 miles from the county's only city, Truro.

The village acts as host to a variety of eateries, independent shops, and a supermarket, For youngsters, there is a skatepark and play area as you enter the village from the Mill Lane side, a mere few hundred metres from the local Pengelly's supermarket, and public car park.

Further into the village is Porthleven Harbour Market, with local independent vendors selling Cornish food, jewellery, clothing and vintage goods.

There is an array of gift shops selling Cornish-themed items and produce. Ced's Bagels, the Mussel Shoal, Kota, are just a few of the eateries in the village. Pasties can be purchased at multiple establishments, as can ice cream for when the sun is making an appearance!

There are many clothing and art shops on the road that leads around to Porthleven pier, where one can sit and watch the sea on a calm day, but be warned the waves do break well above the harbour during a storm, so we urge people to be respectful of the sea during stormy weather.

From the harbour you can embark on various voyages with local boat charters, whether you want to view the local wildlife, see the sights, or do some fishing!

Porthleven clock tower can be viewed from the outside as you walk up and along Cliff Road, and along Porthleven beach. Surfers can enjoy what is described as one of the 'best reef breaks in the UK' to the right of the harbour, but for those preferring to sunbathe, the beach is often sandy enough to lay out your beach towel, and catch some rays.

Portheven can also be viewed a bit closer to home, via the photographic gallery that is on display in the Out of the Blue free house on the camp site, which is a photographic exhibition that opened in 2015, and contains over 1,000 photos of Porthleven's history - everything from shipwrecks to local people.
